Design contest The Green Fashion Competition at the AIFW

Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW) and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality have joined forces for The Green Fashion Competition: A design contest in token of the International Year of Biodiversity.
Over a 180 participants from all over the world joined the competition. After the first round only 40 teams were selected to enter the second phase of the competition. On Thursday the 25th of November 2010 the announcement of the 8 finalists took place. According to the jury their business plans were best presented and their outfits the most sustainable. Each finalist received €1.250 to create 2 outfits and work out their business plan. The winner will be announced at the Amsterdam Fashion Week in january 2011 and wins a cash prize of €20.000.
About the Green Fashion Competition
The Green Fashion Competition is a design contest where in participants are stimulated to think about social responsible entrepreneurship in the fashion industry. The winners of the competition will be provided by The Green Fashion Competition with workshops in Business and Creation, a platform during the 14th edition of AIFW and expertise from the AIFW network as well as substantial cash prizes.
The jury
A professional jury will judge the whole course of the competition. The jury consists of pioneer in sustainable fashion Kentroy Yearwood (INTOXICA), publicist and fashion journalist Georgette Koning (NRC Handelsbald, Nrc.Next), Senior Banker Manolo Marquez (Fortis Bank Nederland / ABN AMRO), Wijnand Broer, a specialist in sustainable development (CREM) and an expert from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
